Celebrating Easter and a birthday ...

This year my niece's birthday was Easter weekend, so on Saturday we had a combined  9th birthday and Easter dinner celebration.

The weather was beautiful on Saturday. My niece went to a local Easter egg hunt in the morning and then we met at "grandma & pap's house" for birthday/Easter dinner. My mom is a great cook ... everything was delicious and her Easter table was lovely! I was in charge of dessert and I made cream-filled cupcakes and decorated them like a flower garden with bright green sprinkles and sugar-candy daisies, butterflies, ladybugs and bumblebees. The birthday girl loved them, so mission accomplished!

My niece loves to do "crafts". Since she was very young she has been "crafty".  Birthday gifts were all about replenishing her craft projects and supplies! If I could only get her interested in cross stitching reproduction samplers, I could get some of my WIP's finished! She's 9 now ... the perfect age, right!

Here is the pillow that I stitched for her.

By the Bay Needleart "Gigi's Garden"
Belfast 32ct. "Flax"  Linen
DMC fibers
Fabric and trim for pillow from JoAnn Fabrics

It was complete with cute little garden critters ....

bumblebees and swirly clouds ...

and, of course, rick-rack trim which in my opinion makes every project better!

This was a fun design to stitch and a fun project to finish, but ...  I've missed my samplers. I'm happy to be getting back to stitching the new homework for "Ann Dale" and hopefully getting some additional stitches on "Frederick". But my stitching time in the upcoming weeks is going to be a little bit limited, so we'll see how it goes!

Thanks for stopping by for a visit!

Until next time ... enjoy your stitching!

  2. What a lucky niece - your darling pillow as a gift, not to mention those outrageous Easter cupcakes!

I feel the same way when I dabble with my knitting projects. It's fun to have something differnt to work on, but once I pick up my samplers again, it's always like I'm back home.

  12. That design is so appropriate and absolutely adorable. You couldn't have picked a better finish to show it off. I have to say though, it was a little difficult to focus after I read "cream filled cupcakes".
